Herbalism and Wellness

herbs 1.jpg

Herbalism refers to folk and traditional medicinal practices based on the use of plants and plant extracts.  Herbalism is also known as phytotherapy and includes all parts of the plant (root, stem, bark, leaf, flower, fruit).  Herbal remedies may also include plant extracts and minerals (i.e. certain types of shells).

The use of herbs to treat disease is universal among many non-industrialized societies.  A number of these traditions have come to dominate the practice of herbal medicine in the West, these include:  Greek & Roman sources, Ayurvedic sources from India and Chinese herbal medicine.

Many of the pharmaceuticals currently available to Western physicians have a long history of use as herbal remedies, such as:  aspirin, digitalis, quinine and numerous others.

Herbal remedies are also used to promote emotional and spiritual wellness.  Many cultures around the world believe in the energetic influences herbs can have on the spirit, the soul and even environments.  There are herbs that are used to clear and cleanse negative energy, to raise the energetic and spiritual vibration, to promote peace and serenity, to call joy and abundance.

My desire is to not only provide quality herbs but also quality knowledge and information that can be incorporated into your own lifestyle to suit your particular needs.

Here is a wonderful article over-viewing the class of herbs known as 'adaptogens'.  These powerful herbs are wonderful for soothing and restoring our nervous systems and allowing our bodies to cope and adapt to stress more efficiently.  They have also been shown to have beneficial effects on our mental alertness and stamina, our immune systems and more.
